West Ham has confirmed the signing of Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd from French side Rennes.
The defender is West Ham's first signing of the summer, as Moyes tries to build upon last season's success which saw the Hammers qualify for the Conference League. This will be the Hammer's second season with European Football, heightening the need for new signings to build depth for another long season.
"West Ham is a historic club. I saw a few of their games this year, and I saw the fans and the atmosphere were fantastic, with the bubbles! I talked with the manager and he showed me that he was very interested, so it was easy to choose to come to West Ham."
West Ham faced competition from big spenders Newcastle, but it appears that the Magpies will move for Lille's Sven Botman instead.
The defender will compete for starts with the likes of Craig Dawson, Zouma, and Diop, with Ogbonna entering the twilight of his career. Having 4 quality central defenders is a key part of a successful season with multiple competitions.
"We have tracked his progress for some time and I'm very pleased that we have been able to complete the signing. He's a great addition that will add to our defensive options. - Moyes
