Arsenal has confirmed the contract extension of young striker Eddie Nketiah this morning. The 22-year-old has been at Arsenal since he was 14, scoring 23 goals in 92 senior appearances since his debut in 2017.
His contract will run until June of 2027, signifying that Mikel Arteta's Arsenal project will have Nketiah at its heart. There were rumors that he may have left Arsenal earlier in the season, with reports suggesting various Bundesliga clubs were contemplating a move. Still, after five goals in the final eight league games, it looks like the Englishman has proven himself to Arteta.
I’m delighted Eddie is staying with us. He represents what we are all about and all the values of the club. We are very happy that he has extended his contract and now we have to get to work and continue to develop the great talent and person that we have in him. - Mikel Arteta
As shown above, Nketiah will now wear the famous number 14, previously worn by Aubamayeng, who left the club in January for Barcelona. But even before Aubamayeng, the 14 was worn by the legendary Thierry Henry,
who scored over 200 goals for the club, and stared in Arsenal's famous "Invincibles" season where the club didn't lose a game as they won the league.
